Becky Cocker is the founder of CARV and the designer and creator of CARV bags. Becky originally trained as a Town Planner but has always loved fashion, sewing and design, creating clothes and bags in any spare moments.  But in 2015 Becky decided to pursue her dream of a more creative path and established CARV, an independent fashion label. every CARV bag is handcrafted in east London using traditional leatherworking skills, natural veg tanned leather, and products sourced from local suppliers

Becky is a self-taught creative, having learned leatherworking through the writings and teachings of the guru, Valerie Michael.  She developed the unique CARV style with an awareness of fashion movements but taking inspiration from the freedom, diversity and independence of life on the canals and rivers of London where she lives.  The CARV style is Becky's personal interpretation of classic bag shapes with a modern minimalist twist that showcases the qualities of natural leather.  The intention is to create timeless pieces that are not reliant on commercial seasons.

Becky is passionate about the environment, sustainable fashion and supporting UK based skills, manufacturing and businesses.  For this reason CARV is based on the principles of slow fashion, with each bag being:

made in small numbers allowing the focus to be on lasting quality and individuality. Less than 100 pieces are made each year and many are limited editions.

made with traditionally and naturally produced leather (vegetable tanned). This type of leather supports traditional British production, is kinder to the environment, and has beautiful properties that get even better with age.

made using materials sourced from local suppliers to support a diverse UK skills base and manufacturing economy.

Becky believes that a strong creative community is essential for sustainable growth in the UK manufacturing economy and CARV is a proud member of the independent fashion community.  Becky actively promotes skills and knowledge exchange and is pleased to share information about the leatherworking process, CARV suppliers and partners in the independent community on the discover pages.
